This is a typical suburban garden which was designed and constructed by a professional team many years ago. The garden lays on the west side of a building therefore some of the garden gets full sun, some partial sun and some partial shade. The patio is in the ideal place as it gets the sun during summer afternoons/evenings.
We’ve been looking after this garden since 2013. Since the beginning we paid attention to maintain the garden with the highest standards. Every plants was pruned back in the right time of the year. We also applied the principles of ecological gardening. What does it mean in practice?
- First of all we applied organic soil care. Compost, manure and mulching eliminated the use of synthetic fertilisers.
- We also used organic weed management. Manual weeding with mulching most cases represent an alternative against herbicides as frequent use of those chemicals destroys soil living microorganisms. Then these miniature creatures helps to keep plants healthy in a garden.
- We also looked after the small inhabitants of the garden. A log pile was created for the insects and a bird table for the birds. These creatures also important to keep unwanted pests (larvae of ladybirds eats whiteflies and aphids while robins could eat cuttworms and leatherjackets).
- As over time many perennial plants died and disappeared we aimed to plant specific plants which not only nice but also could attract
