Private Garden, Delgany, Co. Wicklow
This garden was a north facing one at the bottom of a hill with heavy clay subsoil. Therefore large part of the garden was in constant shade especially during the winter months. When it rained the excess water turned the whole garden into a swimming pool. The owner has kids and dogs and she wanted to turn this depressing, underused and muddy yard into a real garden.
One of the main objective of this project was to find cost effective solutions for the problems described above:
- We aimed to resolve the drainage issue by replacing 1/5th of the lawn by a sunken pebble covered area with stepping stones.
- The grey pebbles also has an important functions as their uneven surface reflects the light and make the garden brighter.
- A raised bed was also created to accommodate a low maintenance border with herbaceous perennials.
- Probably the main feature of this project was the repainting of the garden sheed and the fencing panels.
